Ann Chiejine: Women's football is rising in Africa
Former Nigeria women goalkeeper Ann Chiejine thinks women's football have made steady growth in Africa in terms of competition with the African Women's Cup of Nations.
Chiejine who is currently the Super Falcons assistant coach, stressed that her national side were no longer capable of crushing opponents up to 11-0 like they use to do back in 1992.
"I think the game is rising right now. If you ask me this question in 1991, I will tell you that it is nothing to write home about" says Chiejine.
"If you look at what everyone is doing in their own country. They want to dominate women's football. And I will tell you everything team here is as good as winning the competition."
"Becuase the game is really rising. If you look back to 1991, our team was always trashing others 9-0, 11-0. But now it is a little bit hard to do that."
"But I still know they will always struggle, especially when you're playing against the champions they will lways struggle to beat the team because we have started far long before now."
"And as we know Rome was not built in a day. It is not a day's journey - it is step by step. But I must tell you women's football in Africa is really rising and we will surely get there."
