South Africa were looking to start their All African Games campaign on a good note by beating Cameroon in Congo on Monday.
The two teams could not hit the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, and had to settle for a goalless draw going into the second half.
Leandra Smeda opened the scoring in the 71st minute to hand Banyana Banyana a 1-0 lead over the Indomitable Lioness. However, Manie Christine equalised for Cameroon with two minutes left on the clock to deny Vera Pauw’s side three massive points.
South Africa’s second game will be against the Black Queens of Ghana on Thursday, September 10. Egypt, who were also in Group B, withdrew from the tournament late last month, meaning there are only three teams in the group. Banyana need to defeat the Black Queens to book their place in the knockout stages.
